You Are Fighting For Attention.
The email inbox is more competitive than ever.
The average person receives over 100 emails a day, and that doesn’t include spam.
And these days, you aren’t just competing with other email senders.
You are also competing with the ESP’s (email service providers) like Google, Yahoo, and Hotmail for placement in the inbox rather than going to promotions or worse… SPAM!
So how on earth are you supposed to stand out amongst the competition?
Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t easy to do. That said, do it right, and you’ll transform your business with email marketing.
Over the last several years, I’ve sent more than 500 million emails.
And our open rates on those emails have consistently been over 60% and often times over 70%, with our deliverability being top in the industry. This is a screenshot that I took recently showing a 76% open rate on 10.5M emails.
In a competitive field like health and fitness, this is unheard of! Especially when many say the rule of thumb these days is to try and keep your open rates above 20%.
One thing you need to understand is as you send more and more emails, open rates tend to start dropping. And as you scale, it becomes increasingly more important to keep an eye on factors like open rates, spam complaints, deliverability, keeping your list clean and more.
Again, these aren’t hard to do.
It can actually be quite simple.
And I like simple.
So let me give you two tips that will help you get better open rates, improve deliverability, and build a great relationship with your readers
1) Be so good that your readers are WAITING to open your emails.
As a marketer, it’s very easy to be in the “Always Be Selling” mindset. That said, when you focus first on building a relationship with your readers, you will be much better off in the long run.
In my own businesses, 90% of the emails we send provide every single person reading it some sort of value whether they buy something or not.
Providing value is one of the best ways you can build the relationship with your reader because at the end of the day, your readers always have in the back of their mind: “what’s in it for me?”
In 90% of the emails you send, you should get 3 “YES” answers to these questions:
1) Am I providing value to my reader whether they purchase something or not?
2) Am I giving them an opportunity to change their life with one of my programs?
3) Does this email get my reader to know me more, like me more, and trust me more?
If you answer YES to all those questions on 90% of your emails, you are doing a fantastic job.
Because when those other 10% of emails you send doing a hard sell, your readers will be ready to buy because they know, like, and trust you.
2) Make sure you have STRONG email subject lines
The subject line is the very first thing your reader sees along with all the other 100+ emails in their inbox.
So the better your subject line, the better chance the reader will open.
I track, save, and split test all my best subject lines.
